Whitney Hello there! My name is Whitney and this is my little corner of the WWW. I'm 27 years old and currently trying to navigate life in the "big" city. I make it through with the help of my boyfriend Seto, best friend Kyle and an array of whacky friends. By day I'm a retail slave and aspiring front-end programmer and by night you can find me masquerading as a slighly-rabid fangirl. I love all things Doctor Who and am a recovering World of Warcraft addict. Life can get pretty crazy at times, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Ugh! I feel like I’ve been on the go non-stop for the past several days. The sad part about it is that I haven’t actually gotten all that much accomplished.

For the most part I’ve been spending all my time either at work or school. It seems like if I’m not one place then I’m at the other and it’s got me itching for a vacation…preferably soon.

Class! Work!

Last week I got out of class a bit early and realized that I’d started to get the “driving itch” again, so I called up Kyle and we decided to play the left right game a bit. Basically you drive and someone picks left or right. You turn that direction and then take the next turn in the opposite direction and just continue on like that. We played for about an hour and realized something very significant about playing the game in Pittsburgh v. playing at home.

Left/Right in Bradford County: Play for an hour and end up on creepy dirt back-road in the middle of nowhere
Left/Right in Pittsburgh: Play for an hour and end up….in Pittsburgh

We did get pretty turned around for a while though, and saw a lot of nice houses / developments out in the Brentwood / Whitehall area.

Brentwood Towne Square

Eventually we just kept driving and ended up in Washington, PA. Ended up scouting out The Meadows, which is somewhere Kyle and I will probably be spending a LOT of time this coming race season, and we also checked out the Tanger Outlets. Other than that the trip was pretty uneventful and we made it back home by midnight.

Saturday was my busy day. My Multimedia class is filming a play that our school’s theater company is putting on so we can produce a DVD of the performance for them. Had to show up at the theater early to get everything set up: including hanging microphones from the grid. Nobody else at setup was willing to go up into the grid with our professor, so I ended up doing it… If you’ve never climbed up a 25ft completely vertical ladder…it’s quite an experience. Especially if you’re terrified of heights like me. But I did it, and I’m proud of myself for doing it! Once we got things set up, I had a bit of free time before the actual play started so I spent a few hours just hanging around and doing nothing. Filming the play was uneventful, and hopefully everything went well because I do not want to have to go back and film again next weekend.

After the play I went to Kyle’s house because he and his new roommate Kaleb were having a house warming party. There weren’t too many people there and we ended up playing Kings. I don’t drink that often, so I’m pretty much a lightweight when it comes to alcohol. I also rarely ever play drinking games because of that fact and because of the fact that I suck at them. Needless to say I ended up crashing at Kyles and waking up with not that much time to spare before I needed to leave for work. And of course I spent all day feeling like crap because of it. I still can’t figure out why my left leg hurts so much though…but I’m supposing that it has something to do with climbing up into the grid and not being able to stand upright while up there.

Now I’m just sitting around watching Pirates of the Caribbean and thinking about trying to sleep away the rest of this head ache, so I shall leave you with one last pic…decided to show off my tattoo a bit.

Once More, With Feeling

If I was honest with myself, I absolutely loved the domain name Finding Whitters, but it was just too long for me. I’ve never been a huge fan of long domain names, except in very specific circumstances. So even though I really liked my blog, I’d been thinking more and more lately about finding something else. And every time I thought about getting a new domain name I found myself wondering if there was any way I could get my old site: whitters.nu back.

After extensively talking with GoDaddy, NuNames, and Key-Systems1 I found that the domain is actually pending delete and has been for nearly the last two years. This means I technically could have been using the domain for the past two years without paying for it. In June it will finally be deleted and back up for someone to purchase. So instead of using it, experiencing downtime and then purchasing the domain again, I decided instead to pick a different name.

In the end2 I ended up with something not so different: whttrs.nu. I use whttrs for pretty much every website I sign up for, so it seemed like the natural choice. So far I’m absolutely in love with it.

Something else you’ll probably notice if you’re browsing around my sites: over the next several hours they’ll all disappear. All of my domains (brand-new.me, theshegeek.net, etc.) are being set to forward here to whttrs.nu for the time being. The reason for this is twofold:

  1. To make me a better blogger - I’ve told myself that if I can’t keep up with one blog, then I don’t need to have multiple ones. So now if I can prove to myself, as time goes on, that I can keep up with this place, then I will consider adding my other blogs back into the mix.
  2. To protect my viewers – All of my domains (including findingwhitters.com) pointed to my old HostGator account. Due to an old copy of wordpress left in a former hostees account, all of my sites were infected with malware and despite the best efforts of both myself and the HostGator security team, we just cannot get rid of the malicious scripts. So, because that account will expire in just one short month, I opted to create a new account with HostGator that’s been paid for 2 years in advance so that it matches up with the life cycle of this domain name.

So, for the time being, whttrs.nu is my only blog and will stay that way for at least a couple months.

In addition to my goal of becoming a better blogger, I’m also starting off attempt #23 at completing the 365 Days challenge. I’ve got my phone all set up again to remind me every night to take a picture. That didn’t help last time though, so I guess we’ll just see.

Day #1

So here’s to looking forward to a (hopefully) better and brighter blogging future!
