Holidays at Work Bring PANIC!
Well, I hope everyone had a good holiday weekend! For a lot of people I know that meant a 3-day weekend off work and to those people I say: Lucky you! I ended up not having to work Easter Sunday1, but I did work Friday and Saturday. Friday was nothing special, but Saturday was the work-day from hell. No, customers weren’t overly rude, and it wasn’t a long day…it was actually something the store did that made it horrible for me.
A little backstory: I have absolutely no clue why, but I am DEATHLY afraid of people who dress up in full body costumes…the Pirate Parrot for instance. They freak me out to no end and I have absolutely no clue why. I can usually get by if I’m just seeing them, or if they’re a long way away from me, but if they attempt to interact with me in any way, I tend to go into full-blown panic mode.
Well, I knew that we were going to be having the Easter Bunny at work on Saturday…but I thought it was only for breakfast in the morning. I didn’t know that he’d be walking around the store, especially down in the cash lanes. So imagine my surprise horror when Mr. Bunny walks from behind me into my field of vision. And as he passed, because he knew me, he waved. I almost full-on lost it right there in the middle of the self-checkouts. My hands started shaking, I started sweating and I’m pretty sure I almost started crying there for a bit. It was absolutely pathetic. Thankfully he only popped down a couple times and then Mr. Bunny retired for the day. Because I don’t know if I would have been able to keep working if he kept showing up…I even told one of my managers that I was freaking out about it so that he wouldn’t wonder why I looked scared out of my wits.
But I survived to work another day… which in a way is a good thing but in a way is a bad thing. I have decided that I am way too addicted to shopping in my store. They need to revoke my employee discount so that I stop buying things. Twice this past week I ended up leaving the store with various items.

Like I really needed more stuffed animals!
Clearly I have a problem…
Other than work, life is starting to kick into high-gear. It’s three weeks until the Pittsburgh stop of the Devil’s Carnival Road Tour2, three weeks until classes are over and just four short weeks until I graduate!
Who knows what comes after that, but I’m excited!

Whitney is a twenty-six year old girl living in Pittsburgh, PA. She's a retail slave and aspiring programmer by day, and a (slightly) rabid fangirl and tech-head by night. When she doesn't have her face glued to the screen and a barcode scanner is nowhere in site you can usually find her spazzy dancing to Electronic, burning out on video games, and habitually watching late-night informercials. While I don’t personally have a phobia of costumes, I am uncomfortable around them. It’s probably one of the biggest reasons I haven’t made my way down to Disney at any point in my life. It stemmed back to child hood sitting on the lap of the random Easter bunny every year at the local landscape yard.
At least he only passed a few times, I hope the rest of the day went much smoother for you.
And everyone needs stuffed animals, no matter how old you are – some of them are just too cuddly to pass up.
Hope all is well.
